With sincere gratitude to Prof. Dr. Kazuo Murakami (1936-2021)
We regret to announce that Professor Emeritus Kazuo Murakami, the first Director of the Center for Tsukuba Advanced Research Alliance (TARA Center), passed away on April 13, 2021.
Dr. Kazuo Murakami was a leading expert in research on renin-angiotensin, which is involved in the pathogenesis of hypertension. He purified renin, analyzed the structure of human renin, and produced and analyzed genetically modified mice. He was awarded the Japan Academy Prize for his research on “Biochemical and Molecular Biological Studies of Renin-angiotensin System (Joint Research)” in 1996. He was also awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, in 2011.
As the first Director of the TARA Center, he made a great contribution to the development of interdisciplinary scientific research at the University of Tsukuba.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Dr. Kazuo Murakami and pray that his soul may rest in peace.
